President’s Letter – August 2011
Greetings Once Again,
As the swelter of summer sizzles along, the Chamber is preparing to turn the heat up even more in town with our 17th Annual Carnival & Craft Fair August 18-21. The Chamber will be rolling out another festive fair highlighted by our traditional two nights of spectacular fireworks. It is truly an event you do not want to miss as this year we welcome the Rose Brucia Foundation who will be promoting our fair’s theme of “Stranger Safety Awareness”. Additionally, the Holbrook Fire Department will have their “Junior Firefighters” interactive exhibit available, the kids will really enjoy learning about Fire Prevention, First Aid & Safety Awareness. Once again, on Saturday & Sunday we will have our “Craft Village” where you can purchase unique gifts, clothing, toys, novelties and of course homemade items & crafts. There will be rides, games, food, and live entertainment throughout the entire four fun filled days. Clear your calendar, reschedule any other activities and make your way down to this year’s fair.
Last month we had a huge turnout for our first free summer concert under the stars. Over 3,000 people attended the “That 70’s Band” show. The group was as promised…. fabulous. There is no doubt that the Holbrook Country Club was transformed into a boogie wonderland on that beautiful evening. Folks were dancing up a storm, singing along and enjoying a night of free entertainment thanks to Suffolk County Legislator Bill Lindsay who graciously hosted the evening along with the Town of Islip and the Holbrook Chamber. The good news is we get to party all over again on Saturday evening September 10th, 7 PM with the Rolling Stones Tribute Band Streetfighter. I suggest you arrive early as we anticipate an even larger crowd for a Saturday night show.
I hope everyone enjoyed the Chamber newsletter “Holbrook Happenings” that was mailed out earlier last month. We received a lot of positive feedback from both the residents & businesses with regard to the publication. Several of our residents purchased the Community Discount Card and we picked up a few new members. If you had the opportunity to review the newsletter, you’re now more aware of all of the positive things the Chamber is doing to improve the town both aesthetically and collaboratively with other local organizations such as Sachem, Fire Department & local civic groups.
On behalf of the Chamber, I would like to proudly thank all of our current Chamber Members for their continued support year in and year out. I would especially like to thank all of our Fair Sponsors for without your generous contributions the community would not have a wonderful fair to look forward to every year.
To all of our non-Chamber businesses, it is now time for you to join. Plain and simple, the milk doesn’t flow for free forever. Our residents and the rest of our supporting members need you to step up and become a part of the solution for a better Holbrook. Don’t remain a part of the problem, we want to make Holbrook the best it can be and we’re on the right track but we need the support of EVERYONE. Unfortunately, we still have several commercial property owners, large corporate and small to midsize companies taking money out of our community every day and never giving anything back. This is no longer acceptable, if you’re not a member of the Chamber than yes we are talking to you. Do yourself, your staff and this community a favor and become a part of something positive for Holbrook. Become a Holbrook Chamber member today. The process is smooth, painless and cheap at the price. You can contact us at Holbrookchamber.com or directly at 631-471-2725. Please don’t delay do it today. The Chamber is ready to take it to the next level and we can only do it if you take the next step.
In closing, we look forward to seeing everyone down at the Fair later this month. Best of luck to all of our Holbrook students who are heading off to college, make us proud and say it loud how proud you are that you come from Holbrook!!!
All the Best Always,
Holbrook Chamber of Commerce
