President’s Letter – May 2012
As we make way for May’s flowers thanks to April’s showers, let’s make a serious effort to NOT litter along our roadways and throughout the community. Thanks to the collective efforts of all our fine volunteers for April’s “Holbrook Clean-up Day”, the town looks clean again. Twice a year (April & October) the Holbrook Beautification Committee under the guidance of Legislator Bill Lindsay, combine with many of the local civic groups and area volunteers to perform a clean-up of the debris that was carelessly strewn across our town.
Although the Holbrook semi-annual cleanups help to minimize the amount of accumulated litter, we still need to make people more aware of the consequences that hurt our environment. Now, most of the folks that take the time to read this column are likely already in tune with doing the right thing when it comes to their community. What we need is for you to spread the word to family, friends and neighbors that it is not okay to toss Instant Lottery Tickets, beverage bottles, snack & candy wrappers, newspapers and cigarette butts out the window of a vehicle. Let’s all think before we sink our environment by littering. Holbrook is truly a great place to live, work & shop, so let’s preserve our town by keeping it one of the cleanest in the state as well.
On Thursday evening May 3rd, the Chamber will be hosting our semi-annual “Networking Night” at 6:30 PM in the Holbrook Country Club. If you’re a current business owner who is not a member of the Chamber, this would be a great opportunity to stop down and see what we’re all about. Of course we would love to see all of our members there as well. This is another effort to put money in our Members pockets by bringing everyone together under one roof. Mark your calendar as this is an event you won’t want to miss.
The Chamber has no further information to report on the Islip Pines application. We will be sure to inform everyone with any progress on this proposal as it becomes available.
On Saturday March 5th @ noon, the Chamber will be on hand to celebrate the Grand Opening of the True Value Hardware & Benjamin Paint store on Main Street. It is great to have a hardware store back in town, please stop in and support one of our newest members.
On Monday, May 28th, please join us for our Annual Memorial Day Parade which commences at 11 AM on the corner of Main St. & Grundy Ave. The parade route travels south on Main St. to Furrows Rd and heads west to Grundy Ave. Our ceremony will convene at the Alex Di Guardia Vietnam Memorial at approx. 11:30 AM. The Chamber will then join our friends at the Holbrook Fire Department for their ceremony. Come out and show your colors, your support is greatly appreciated.
In closing, the Chamber would like to wish all of our lovely mothers a very Happy Mother’s Day!
All the Best Always,
Rick Ammirati, President
Holbrook Chamber of Commerce
