President’s Letter – April 2013
Welcome to spring and the new fresh feeling it blossoms our senses to. The Chamber is already hard at work sprucing up the areas we maintain by the north gateway into our community. Soon you will witness beautiful flowers and plants popping up by the “Welcome to Holbrook” wall as well as along the berm by 7/11. Many of our “County Adopt a Highway Sponsors” business & community organizations are already cleaning up and beautifying the medians along the Patchogue Holbrook Road corridor. This year we should all appreciate these efforts more than ever after the adverse impact this winter had on our roadways & plantings.
During the month of April, the Chamber will be replacing all of the original lighting for the aforementioned “Welcome to Holbrook” wall with new LED lamps and spotlights. This will create two benefits, 1. It will increase and enhance the illumination of the sign and surrounding landscape which will have a dramatic impact when you enter the community from the north-end during the evening hours. 2. These new lamps will be fully compliant with the “Green initiative” and reduce the current electrical usage by 85%. The Chamber shall be utilizing funds from the proceeds of our Annual Fair to cover this expense. This is just one of many improvements the Chamber can perform thanks to the support of the entire community both residential and commercial at our Annual Fair in August.
On Saturday April 20th at 9 AM (meet at Seneca Middle School), the Holbrook Beautification Committee in association with Legislator Lindsay’s District Office will be hosting our Annual Spring Holbrook Cleanup Day. Here EVERYONE has the opportunity to pitch in and help out with picking up all of the litter strewn across Holbrook’s highways and throughout the Business District. Gloves, trash bags & pickers will be supplied courtesy of the County and Keep Islip Clean. In keeping with Earth Day (4/22), come on out and help us make a difference in OUR town. Community Service Credits are available for students via Legislator Lindsay’s office. On behalf of the Holbrook Beautification Committee of which our Chamber VP is the President and yours truly is the VP, we’re asking for a strong turnout so the heavy work of many hands shall become light. Please join us in making Holbrook a better and cleaner place for us all.
On Saturday March 23rd, the Chamber had the pleasure of attending the First Anniversary Celebration for one of our members TAG Beverage on Main St. /Furrows Rd. As always, Tom Gandley and his lovely wife Michele hosted a great event complete with W.W.E. Wrestler Mick Foley signing autographs and a visit if not a blast from the past from the Ghostbusters. It brought a huge smile to this old President’s face when I saw the entire shopping center at full capacity just buzzing with activity. It’s great people like the Gandley family that we must ALWAYS go out of our way to support. It has to be a part of our conscious every time we need a product or service that first and foremost we support our Chamber businesses. If we don’t, we will lose so much of the good that is missing not only in the business world but the world in general today. Bottom line, next time you need a case of the beverage or beverages of your choice, stop in and see Tom and his staff I know they will appreciate it. Keep in mind Tom is a Holbrook Boy turned Holbrook Businessman, keeping him in and his family in our town is not an option it’s a must!
In closing, we look forward to seeing everyone down at the cleanup which should only take a few short hours if we have a nice turnout. A small investment on a Saturday morning will lead to big results for your community.
All the Best Always,
Rick Ammirati, President
Holbrook Chamber of Commerce
