President’s Letter – December 2013
Whew, here we are as it’s the holiday season which has many people I speak with scratching their heads and saying “where did another year go”? I want to wish all of our Jewish friends a very happy Hanukah which actually commenced on the evening of November 27th. The Chamber Annual Christmas Tree Lighting will take place on Saturday December 7th, 4:30 PM in the Irish Times/Friendly Shopping Plaza.
Once Again, the Chamber would like to thank our great friends over at the Holbrook Fire Department for installing all of our Holiday Lights which really provide a warm holiday feel along Main St and down Union Avenue. This year, thanks to a successful Carnival back in August, the Chamber was able to purchase a dozen new decorations along with installing new outlets on the poles. We truly hope our residents and business owners enjoy and appreciate the effort it takes both coordinating and maintaining our holiday lighting program.
Earlier last month, the Chamber hosted our first Bon Appetit & More event over at the Holbrook Fire Dept. Headquarters on Terry Rd. This very successful evening was held upstairs in the Banquet Dining area. We had nearly 50 different eateries, caterers and businesses participate along with nearly 300 residents who attended. Everyone enjoyed sampling some great tasting food along with visiting various Chamber businesses and services. This wonderful evening was also held as a benefit to a great organization and dear friend of the Chamber the Rose Brucia Foundation. A special thank you to all of the Members who participated and donated raffle gifts. The overwhelming consensus was that we should do this again sometime next year. A special thank you to Debbie O’Rourke from Eventide, Bea Hoffer from Our Place Newspapers and Fern Spies from Spies Travel for heading up the committee and coordinating this fine event.
A special congratulation to the Our Place Newspapers as they celebrate 25 great years. Bea and Fran have been a tremendous asset to both the Holbrook and Ronkonkoma Chambers over the past 25 years. I can honestly say that if not for the wonderful media vehicle they provide month in and month out there is no way our towns would be as successful as they are. Never in my 30 plus years of business experience have I witnessed a better quid pro quo where a publication provides so much free content and coverage for a chamber and in turn rightfully receives advertising from its business community. Although 25 years may be considered a silver anniversary, in the Holbrook Chamber’s book the Our Place Newspaper has always been Gold!
In closing, I will be brief as I know everyone is very busy with the holiday hustle and bustle. As we say goodbye to 2013, on behalf of the Chamber I would like to thank all of our residents who have supported our events and even more importantly are members. In the end, all that the Chamber does is for our members and our community to truly preserve Holbrook as a “great place to live, work and shop”.
Have a Truly Happy and Healthy Holiday and New Year!
All the Best…Always,
Rick Ammirati, President
Holbrook Chamber of Commerce
