President’s Letter – July 2014
I trust with that long icy winter and seasonably cool spring behind us everyone is now enjoying the beautiful warm weather. Ah yes, summer on Long Island indeed truly one of this country’s greatest treasures as we boast some of the most beautiful beaches and shores in the world. Sometimes we take for granted how fortunate we are to live on an island that actually has the benefits of hosting four different seasons. Most islands with beautiful beaches only have one or two seasons year-round. I for one am very thankful to have lived on Long Island my whole life and absolutely love our summers but do look forward to the seasonal changes.
As I often have mentioned in my columns over the years, locally the summer always presents a challenge for many of our businesses in town. Of course Chamber Member Everyday Pools is very busy along with the Propane Guys, Brinkmann’s True Value Hardware and naturally YogoMania. But please keep in mind, we have over two dozen automotive repair businesses in the Chamber for all of those air conditioner and radiator hose issues that tend to pop up out of nowhere during the hot weather. If catering is on your calendar please consider referring to theMember Directory as we have some of the best and most reasonably priced caterers for all your summer party needs. Of course the Holbrook Diner is open late and nice and cool if you want to drop by for a relaxing meal, desert or late night snack. For these and over 200 other convenient and reliable services again consult the Member Directory, refer to our mass listing in the centerfold of the Our Place or contact the Chamber directly at 631-471-2725.
It is our understanding based on information provided by the County and Town of Islip, the long awaited and much anticipated Furrows Rd. and Main St. Corner project will finally commence this fall. I will have more details in the August column on both the plan and timeframe for completion. This is a project that the Chamber has been working on along with State Assemblyman Al Graf, Legislators Lindsay both Sr. & Jr. and the Town Of Islip Planning Dept. The original plans were drawn up over 15 years ago and now finally this much needed improvement will come to fruition.
On Friday evening July 18th, in association with Suffolk County Legislator Bill Lindsay Jr., Town of Islip Supervisor Tom Croci & the Islip Town Council Board, the Holbrook Chamber presents our 6th annual Free Summer Concert over at the Holbrook Country Club. The concert is FREE of charge and Trios will be on hand serving hamburgers, hotdogs and snacks. Water and soft drinks will also be available for purchase. You may be wondering who we will have performing, unfortunately the act has not been finalized as this column is going to press however you may refer our Events Calendar or call the Chamber as well as Legislator Lindsay’s office for this year’s artist. I can guarantee we will have as great a show for you as we have had in the past 5 years.
In closing, don’t forget one of Holbrook’s most important events of the year….Our Annual Carnival & Craft Festival starting on Thursday evening August 14th through Sunday the 17th. Along with our usual festivities inclusive of two World Class Fireworks shows, this year the Chamber will be celebrating our 60th Anniversary in addition to our 20th Annual Fair. This year promises a number of surprises, including a reunion of many of our former Little Mr. & Miss Holbrook winners. Mark your calendars and make plans to stay home for that weekend as we will have a great celebration in store for all.
Have a safe 4th of July celebration and we truly hope to see you at the free concert on the 18th as well as the Annual fair in August. Oh and don’t forget always keep it local when and wherever possible, thank you!
All the Best Always,
Rick Ammirati, President
Holbrook Chamber of Commerce
