President’s Letter – August 2015
Well here we are right in the middle of good old summertime. Makes most of us forget about that frigid winter we had. Sure feels good knowing the Annual Chamber Carnival & Craft Fair is rolling back into town from August 13-16th. Truly one of the annual highlights here in Holbrook. Along with our two nights of spectacular fireworks, we will have delicious local food, fun filled rides and games and of course great entertainment. Don’t forget to mark your calendars and set those cell phone alerts.
It has been encouraging to see some of our local businesses real busy even with the summer season. Truly an attribute to both the business owners who have been successful with driving in customers as well as all of our loyal Holbrook residents and neighbors. Conversely, a number of member’s have experienced a little slower period and hopefully we can get out and shop local when and wherever possible. Our businesses need all of us both merchants and residents to shop, dine and utilize any and every service we have available in town. We have some of the best auto repair businesses on the island right here in town. That being said, a very special congratulation to Richie Sayres & family from the Holbrook MTA Auto Repair on the northeast corner of Union Avenue and Patchogue/Holbrook Rd on celebrating their 50th anniversary in town. It has been an honor to have a business like the Holbrook MTA as an integral part of our chamber and the community.
I have had the pleasure of dining at Karvers over in the Holbrook commons recently and more than once. John and his family really serve up some great dishes and his drinks taste as good as a martini in Manhattan. Save the trip and head over there you will truly enjoy their great service and delicious appetizers and entrees. I strongly recommend his new Philly Cheese Steak sandwich as it is mouthwatering. Now let me tell you about Larry’s chicken salad on a bagel or croissant over at Holbrook Bagel. One word…wow…taste just like homemade and Larry will surely tell you it was made with love. Yes, the old chamber president knows there are no better eats and drinks than right in our own backyard. So this summer go visit the shore but always come back to Holbrook where you get so much more.
In closing, please don’t miss us down at the fair this year as we have a great weekend planned while we take Holbrook to Hawaii. Who needs the shore come mid-August when we will have so much in store right down the road at the Seneca Middle School. Have a safe and relaxing summer and good luck to all of our college students as they travel off to school.
All the Best Always,
Holbrook Chamber of Commerce
