President’s Letter – February 2016
As expected, Old Man Winter finally arrived in all his glory last month by dropping the second largest snowstorm in New York City’s history on us. Whew snow lover’s aside, let’s hope the rest of the season passes quickly and without much of that white stuff.
Now here is a warm thought… the Chamber office has already received calls on our annual fair in August. The dates for our carnival have been set for Thursday August 11th through Sunday the 14th. There is nothing like the thought of our carnival to warm the hearts and little toes this time of year.
Once again, the chamber would like to thank the Holbrook Fire Department for the installation and removal of the holiday lights in town. Without their generous efforts and valuable time the chamber would incur an enormous cost every year along with the normal repairs and replacements. We can’t thank all of our dear friends in the department enough.
With Valentine’s Day approaching this month, please make note and visit all of our Chamber members when you’re considering where to take and what to buy for your significant other. For flowers, please visit the lovely ladies over at Nature’s Design Florist. That is the only place I go for my Mom, Wife and close friends when it comes to roses, flowers and plants.
For dinner, well with Valentine’s falling on a Sunday I suggest one lover pays Saturday night and the other the following night. Perhaps the kids can pay the third night. Plenty of opportunities to dine right here in Holbrook. For Italian we have Mamma Lombardi’s, Mamma’s, Carlos and Joe’s Pizza. All can offer you a very nice dinner in that flavorful Italian style. Karver’s or Irish Times are another great choice as they both provide a nice casual atmosphere with delicious food. Try Momo’s Sports Bar & Grill for great drinks and apps. Check out Trio at the Holbrook Country Club as they run Valentine dinner specials as well. Outback for a nice steak and glass of wine sets the mood just right. Try the Greek Islands Restaurant if you’re in that Romantic Mediterranean mood. If you want to dine in it at home, why not call Senor Taco or Hummus who now delivers. Maybe a little Valentine’s brunch with Mom on Sunday at the Holbrook Diner, they can make an excellent mimosa and bloody mary to kick-off the holiday.
For a nice gift and card visit Friendly Drugs and of course for a nice piece of jewelry go see Ingrid and her lovely staff over at Kiersten’s Jewelry. If you love your cat or dog then go see Angel Touch Spa, Bubbles & Biscuits or Furry Friends and show your pet some love.
Of course if Valentine’s weekend doesn’t work out we always have our Chamber Members’ New Beginnings Divorce mediation or Divorce Attorney Marilyn Wenz. Just kidding, follow my advice above and love will prevail as Holbrook truly is where the heart is!
In closing, please stay safe whether you remain local or travel over the President’s Day weekend. Have a Lovely Valentine’s Day.
All the Best Always,
Rick Ammirati, President
Holbrook Chamber of Commerce
