President’s Letter – October 2016
Greetings Friends of Holbrook,
As we close out another beautiful September and literally fall into October the chamber is already bustling with activity.
On Monday September 26, thanks to the great efforts of Brookhaven Town Councilman and may I add dear friend of the Holbrook Chamber Neil Foley, we were finally able to commence with the demolition of the old appliance building on the SW corner of Main St. and Union Avenue. A press conference was held and in attendance along with Councilman Foley were N.Y. State Senator Tom Croci, N.Y. State Assemblyman Al Graf, Holbrook Chamber V.P. Kevin Guilfoyle, Treasurer Fred Coste and yours truly.
After over fifteen years of tireless lobbying with both state and town officials the chamber was successful in securing the cooperation of the local municipalities to engage in the removal of what has been an eyesore at the foot of Main Street for most of our recent memory.
The main concern in addition to its unsightliness is that it sent the wrong message about our community. At this time the chamber is unclear what future development may occur on this corner but what we do know is that it has dramatically cleaned up the area and no doubt is a vast improvement over the former status quos.
On Saturday October 22nd from 9 am to 12 pm, the chamber along with Legislator Bill Lindsay’s office will be hosting our Fall Holbrook Beautification Clean-up. All volunteers none too young or old can participate in this very worthwhile effort in cleaning up both our downtown and the Patchogue/Holbrook Rd. corridor. Immediately following the cleanup, all participants will be treated to a delicious BBQ lunch over at the Seneca Middle School.
Everyone please make an effort to come out and make a difference in OUR town. Think of it as an investment in the future aesthetic well being of the town we all love so dearly…Holbrook!
Have a Happy and safe Halloween and see you at the cleanup and don’t forget to bring your appetite.
All the Best Always,
President, Holbrook Chamber of Commerce
