President’s Letter – July 2017
Greetings & welcome to summer,
It appears the nicer weather is on its way now. After the past few months I was beginning to believe Long Island was becoming like Seattle weather-wise. Don’t get me wrong, we need the rain but when we had to cancel the Memorial Day parade for the second year in a row and then danced through the raindrops at the Bonjourney concert we all said enough is enough.
As the warmer weather now kicks in, the annual chamber fair plans are heating up. This year the chamber is pleased to announce the fair will be held on the grounds of the Holbrook Country Club conveniently located at 700 Patchogue/Holbrook Rd. The fair will occur from August 17-20th. After 15 successful years over at the Seneca Middle School, the Chamber Board felt it was time to relocate into a larger space with more parking and visibility. On behalf of the chamber, I would like to thank the school district for their past cooperation and support of this wonderful annual event and we look forward to working with Sachem again in the future.
The chamber is in the process of re-evaluating the medians along Patchogue/Holbrook Rd. with the intent of getting all of our current sponsors to fulfill their commitments of regular maintenance. Unfortunately, some of the sponsors have been neglecting their areas for the past few years and now they will need to be held accountable. The chamber is also seeking new sponsors for several high visibility areas along that corridor. Considering thousands of cars utilize the roadway on a daily basis it is a great way for a sponsor to promote not only their business but also their care for the community. If you’re interested in sponsoring a median please contact the chamber office at 631-471-2725.
I want to thank everyone within the community for the tremendous concern, gratitude, reflections and love that was shared earlier last month upon the closing of Friendly Drugs a longtime chamber member and contributor to the community. I can tell you first hand that Friendly Drugs and its staff will forever miss our little town and all of the beautiful people we came to know.
Many have inquired as to where the guy who had humbly led the chamber for the past 18 years is going. I can also tell you first hand he’s staying put with the chamber and thanks to the best publication in town The Our Place Newspaper he will continue to do business right here in Holbrook as their Executive Director and King of Cuisine.
In closing, please make sure to mark those calendars for the fair (8/17-8/20) and chamber members please forward your sponsorships in to ensure we have your sign placed in a good spot at the fair and you’re included in all of our advertising leading up to the event. Enjoy the Fourth, be safe and relax a bit as I am sure we all need it.
All the Best Always,
Rick Ammirati, President
Holbrook Chamber of Commerce
