President’s Letter – August 2017
Welcome to August which is truly one of Holbrook’s finer months of the year as its Carnival/Fair Time. Now in its 23rd year, the fair has grown from a small shopping center street event back in 1995 to a major Carnival with over 20 rides, entertainment, delicious food, over 50 gift, clothing, home improvement and the like vendors all highlighted by 2 nights of world class fireworks. This annual event draws in thousands of visitors over the four days. This year the event commences on Thursday August 17th at 6 PM and closes at 9 PM on Sunday August 20th.
This year’s fair promises to be even more special as we’re moving to an exciting new location at 700 Patchogue/Holbrook Rd. on the grounds of the Holbrook Country Club. It is also with an extreme honor that we welcome our very special guests the Holbrook Fire Department along with their families and congratulate them on their 90th Anniversary. The Chamber along with several government officials will be making a special presentation to the Fire Department on Saturday evening just prior to the fireworks show. Please come out and thank our very own Holbrook Heroes with a huge show of support.
On Sunday evening just prior to closing out the Fair around 9 PM the chamber will draw the three winners of our “Chamber Cash” raffle. We’re selling a maximum of 500 total tickets at $ 50 ea. and if all are sold the First Prize will be $ 5,000 or 20% of the available prize money, Second: $ 3,000 or 12% of avail and Third: 2,000 or 8% of the avail.
The “Chamber Cash” drawing will be held on the main concert stage and the winners do not need to be present as we will announce and then immediately contact them if not there. Tickets are now available by either calling the chamber office 631-471-2725 for an entry form or fill out and mail in one located in this month’s Our Place Newspaper. Tickets will also be sold at the chamber tent throughout the entire fair. All proceeds raised by the chamber will be reinvested into the business community via our Beautification and annual Holiday Lighting programs. So please make an investment in our town and perhaps leave with one of those amazing cash prizes.
It is truly a relief for many now that the infamous bridge up by the LIE is finally opened. They’re still putting on some finishing touches so please be careful when entering and crossing the area.
The chamber has been busy with cleaning up, weeding and mowing a number of main areas along Patchogue /Holbrook Rd. However, it is an ongoing battle with the litter, motor vehicle accident debris along with the heat that contribute to those unruly weeds that sprout up only a week later after being removed. Please understand and appreciate we’re trying our best with limited resources and with your support of this year’s Chamber Cash” and the Carnival it will go a long way to get more work done.
The Chamber Board would like to very graciously thank all of the members who already sent in their carnival sponsorships. Your generosity and support shall be recognized and applauded throughout the entire fair weekend. Without our chamber businesses’ support this wonderful event would never have been possible. Please remember to patronize and utilize all of our members the next time you need a service they offer. For a complete listing of our members go to Holbrookchamber.com and click on members or check our chamber directory pages in the monthly Our Place Newspaper.
In closing, we look forward to seeing you and your family down at the fair again later this month. Don’t forget to come out and thank the Holbrook Fire Department for 90 years of serving and protecting the Holbrook Community.
All the Best Always,
Holbrook Chamber of Commerce
