President’s Letter – June 2017
As spring turns into summer things are beginning to heat up in Holbrook. With the warmer weather upon us the chamber is now preparing for our FREE concert on the grounds of the Holbrook Country Club. After taking a few concert promoting years off, the chamber along with Suffolk County are partnering resources to bring the residents of our community an outdoor show on Saturday evening June 17th featuring “Bonjourney” a “Bonjovi/Journey” cover band featuring all their hits from the 80’s & 90’s.
The opening act is “Steel Silk” which covers classic rock, R&B along with pop. The show starts at 7 PM and we strongly suggest you arrive early with your lawn chairs as we are expecting a huge turnout. Food & beverages will be available for purchase along with a 50/50 drawing and Chamber Ca$h raffles for sale. The event is going to be filmed for a Cablevision feature as well.
On Sat May 13th, the Holbrook Beautification Committee along with Legislator Lindsay’s office and the chamber hosted our semi-annual Holbrook Clean-up Day. Unfortunately for the second consecutive time we had heavy rain which caused a light turnout. Many thanks to those who participated in spite of the weather and did a super job of covering most of the areas in need.
It appears that work on the now infamous “Holbrook Bridge” has picked up pace and looks to be heading down the homestretch. The chamber has not yet received official word on when the northbound side shall re-open but we’re optimistic it will be soon. We will obtain official word from the State DOT prior to the next chamber column and report as such.
Attention local business owners, over the next few weeks the chamber will be contacting all of our local companies and establishments who are not members of the Holbrook Chamber seeking your much needed support. The chamber currently consists of 181 active members in good standing but with over 500 businesses listed in Holbrook there needs to be a larger support of membership if we’re going to continue to make a difference. Please take our call and consider joining the lead business organization within the Holbrook community. There is a lot of opportunity to improve the business district both aesthetically and culturally but we cannot do it without your support.
In closing, a very happy Father’s Day to all of our hardworking and loving dads. Our dads set the benchmark of not only how to work hard and achieve our goals but also how to love and care for our family, friends & neighbors. We should all be grateful for the men who molded and shaped our lives and we’re forever indebted to our dads!
All the Best Always,
President, Holbrook Chamber of Commerce
