President’s Letter – September 2017
As another beautiful summer on Long Island winds down it is now time for many to head back to school, back to work fulltime and back to business. Ah yes good old September, bittersweet of a month as she is with kissing those long warm days down by the shore goodbye and trading them for those regimented schedules and buckling down to the reality that is life and all its responsibilities.
Of course September still gives us a few good weekends in the pool and at the beach. She also drops football season off in our living rooms or favorite sports bars and towards the end of the month those cool breezy nights and some of the clearest skies a blazed in sapphire. For me, September is a month I will always remember (thank you Earth, Wind & Fire) given it is my birth month as you can probably tell.
Last month, the chamber had the honor of hosting our 23rd Annual Carnival & Craft Fair over at the Holbrook Country Club. Thanks to the generous hospitality of both Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter and the Islip Town Board we were welcomed with open arms and Holbrook had a blast!
The highlight of the weekend was honoring our dear friends from the Holbrook Fire Department on their 90th Anniversary. Special presentations were made to Chief Chris Heinssen on behalf of the entire Department from State Assemblyman Al Graf, County Legislator Bill Lindsay and the Holbrook Chamber. It was truly humbling to honor the department as there is no way to express our gratitude for all they have done over the years and frankly as they continue to serve right up to the minute. Reflecting on the crowd that evening and looking at some of the fine men and women there representing the Holbrook Fire Department there truly is no greater love a community can have than for their Fire, Rescue and EMT Departments.
Overall the fair was indeed a success and given this was our first year hosting at a new venue in over 15 years most everyone had a great time enjoying the amazing rides, great entertainment and nearly 50 food & vendor displays. Of course the two nights of fireworks were fabulous yet again.
Many special thanks to the Holbrook Fire Department for all of their help with setting up the fair and hosting some really cool fire & rescue demonstrations. The kids got a huge kick out of seeing the fire trucks and all of the gear on display. The chamber also wants to recognize long time fire Dept. member Neil Heffernan who heads-up the Junior Firefighters for both his help along with the juniors. Without their assistance we would not have had as successful of a fair as we did.
The chamber would like to thank all of our generous member sponsors for supporting us again this year. Special thanks to the Holbrook Stop-n-Shop for once again sponsoring our fireworks show, please support the Holbrook Stop-n-Shop as they have been assisting the chamber with the fireworks for over 10 years consecutively. Another salute goes out to our dear friend Legislator Lindsay who generously sponsored our entertainment again this year! Clearly there is no way we put on this kind of show without our member’s support. Thanks to the Holbrook Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Islip we have a wonderful annual event to hopefully look forward to for generations to come.
It is with a heavy heart, the chamber sends its heartfelt condolences to the family of Josh Mileto and the entire Sachem Community. The community will forever honor the # 5 he proudly wore for the Sachem East High School Football Team.
In closing, thank you to all of the residents who came out to support the chamber and fire department down at the fair. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year and please if you noticed a sponsor sign down on the fairgrounds stop in and thank them for helping make this all possible.
All the Best Always,
Holbrook Chamber of Commerce
