President’s Letter – July 2018

As the summer comes sizzling in, the chamber is in full preparation mode for one of Holbrook’s hottest events of the year. Once again the Holbrook Chamber Carnival will take place in August from the 16th through the 19th over on the grounds of the Holbrook Country Club. For the 24th year, this has truly developed into a Holbrook tradition of fun for the entire family. Highlighted by two nights of world class fireworks the event hosts over 25 rides, games, great food, vendors and live local entertainment throughout the entire weekend. Please mark your calendars as this year promises to be our best event yet.

As reported in last month’s column, the chamber is maintaining a dialogue with the engineers and developers for the proposed arena, hotel and sports medical facility on the south side of the Ronkonkoma Hub project. The only news to report is that the Suffolk County Legislature has authorized the developer to move forward and create a detailed proposal within the next 8 months.  The Holbrook Chamber will be weighing in heavily with the developers, County and Town of Islip on how the project will impact our downtown and the surrounding residential community. Our position has been from the start that it MUST be good for Holbrook with respect to the quality of living as well as business.

The chamber hosted our annual Memorial Day Parade again on May 28th. I am pleased to announce that after two straight years of cancellations due to rain, we had a very successful march this year. Special thanks to everyone who participated in the parade. Thank you to our dear friends over at the Holbrook Fire Department for providing the Fire Police to keep our roads safe during the parade. Huge thanks to chamber board member Marilyn Wenz who is the Parade Chairwoman for coordinating this very important event.

On June 9th the chamber along with County Legislator Bill Lindsay hosted a free concert over at the Holbrook Country Club. The event started at noon and continued until 9:30 in the evening. Those who attended were treated to some great entertainment. With five different acts covering music from every decade since the 60’s including Motown it was an amazing time had by all.

In closing, we wish everyone a very happy and safe Fourth of July and summer. We look forward to seeing you all down at the fair in August.

All the best always,

Rick Ammirati
Holbrook Chamber of Commerce
