President’s Letter – November 2018

Tis the season to start freezing? Just like that we’re already seeing frost in the early morning hours and we haven’t even cooked our turkey dinners yet. It’s really hard to predict the weather anymore and as we all know it definitely impacts our daily lives especially as we head into winter.

Last month the chamber joined Legislator Lindsay’s Team in hosting our semi-annual cleanup-day on October 20th. The participation for the fall cleanup was tremendous thanks to over 100 who volunteered a few hours of their time on a Saturday morning. A real special shout out to Nick and his students from Cutting Edge Kempo Karate on Main St. for coming out in full force with a large group. Cub Scout Pack 124 was also on hand to assist in making this one of the most efficient and successful cleanups in over 10 years. We also want to recognize the efforts of Jeff Bodvake of Holbrook who cleans up the LIE South Service Road and the Patchogue/Holbrook Rd. corridor on a regular basis. Jeff whom I have written about in the past is truly an inspiration to us all in how any why to keep our community clean.

The chamber is patiently awaiting a downtown visioning study from Suffolk County Economic Development for our hamlet. The area focuses specifically on the Main Street and Union Avenue corridors. We will share in more detail once we have the renderings and our committee has had the opportunity to review and comment. I can assure everyone this will be very interesting and a step in the right direction for the downtown’s future. The chamber is also looking into doing some future beautification projects down along the Vets Hwy. and Broadway Avenue business areas.

As Thanksgiving rolls around, please do not forget to visit and utilize our chamber members who offer many of the items you will require for that delicious meal. Longtime supporters and members Karvers, Lombardi’s Gourmet Market and Trios all provide catering options to make that day just perfect! Please consider sourcing local first whenever possible.

A Happy Veterans Day to all of our Vets, we can never repay you for your service but we shall forever respect you for what you did for our freedom. Much love to our brave men and women.

In closing, everyone have a Happy Thanksgiving and please take a moment to be grateful for your family, friends and for living in such a great community like Holbrook.

All the Best Always,
Rick Ammirati
