President’s Letter – January 2019

Greetings & Welcome to 2019…

Happy New Year Holbrook! As we brace for the winter chill, there is a lot to look forward to in the new year as the chamber along with our local government officials and planners continue to work on redevelopment plans for the Main St. and Union Avenue corridor. Exciting times indeed as we envision what will be in the 2020’s. In next month’s column, we will have chamber VP and land use expert Kevin Guilfoyle outline and update us on the regional planning study currently underway.

As has become a Holbrook tradition, thank you to our dear friends over at the Holbrook Fire Department for once again hanging all of our holiday decorations in town. To Neil Heffernan and his crew…we cannot thank you guys enough! Given the recent PSEG/Verizon pole replacement project there were a number of issues with some of the electrical supply. Thanks to chamber member and electrician Rob Hanken of R&B Electric who by the way was born and raised here in town, we were able to get a few more decorations working. Next year, we will get everything repaired and looking great.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Christmas Tree and Menorah Lighting Ceremonies early last month as well. Special thanks to the Holbrook FD for escorting Santa to the stage as well as the Ladies Auxiliary for the delicious hot chocolate. Thank you to members of the Abundant Life Church Choir for caroling on stage with everyone. A special thank you to another dear Holbrook Friend in Rabbi Steve Moss from B’nai Israel Reform Temple in Oakdale for presiding over the Hanukkah festivities. Special thanks to the Friendly Shopping Plaza, the Coste Insurance Agency and Spies Travel for hosting the holiday events as well.

As we look forward to the new year, please don’t forget to visit and utilize many of our Holbook Chamber Members throughout the seasons. Without their generous support all of the chamber events and improvements would not be possible. We need to shop local and shop small everyday, not just on “Small Business Saturday”….

All the Best Always,
Rick Ammirati
