President’s Letter – February 2019

Winter Greetings,

February has arrived and our neighbors over in Holtsville are summoning old “Holtsville Hal” to let us know how many more weeks of the cold & gray weather we have left. For those of us who are ready for spring, let’s hope it is nice and cloudy in Holtsville on the second and Hal doesn’t see his shadow….

With the New Year already underway, the chamber has been very busy speaking with a number of government and school officials as we continue ironing out our 2020 plans for the Main Street and Union Avenue corridors. The RPA study which commenced late last summer should be ready for the committee’s review in early February. We will provide full details in our next chamber column as well as the chamber website…

Once the committee which is being headed up by Legislator Lindsay’s office has approved the final proposal, we will host a meeting either at the Sachem Library or the Seneca Middle School for community review and feedback. Assemblyman Smith, both Townships as well as a number of Holbrook civic groups’ Leaders in collaboration with the Chamber have all made a significant amount of contribution to the plan. We’re very excited to see the Main St. /Union Ave. business community getting in line for a much needed facelift.

Once Again, thank you to the new Chief Jim Bodor, Neil Heffernan and several members of the Holbrook Fire Department for removing our holiday decorations in early January. The Chamber is forever grateful to the department for all of their help with our holiday festivities year in and year out.

February also host’s Valentine’s Day, don’t forget to take that special someone to any of our Chamber Member Restaurants. For a complete listing and to make your reservations early check out or the centerfold of this month’s Our Place Newspaper. We have so many great cozy and romantic places for the 14th and a taste to suit anyone’s palate. Looking for a lovely gift? How about visiting Kiersten’s Jewelers? What about your pets? In closing, please stay warm and safe as we push our way through the balance of winter. Enjoy your time away for those fortunate enough to head south and if you’re a business owner in the area? Please consider joining us at the Multi-Chamber (Holbrook, Ronkonkoma, Farmingville and Middle Country) on February 12th at Windows on the Lake, 5:30-8PM.
