President’s Letter – August 2019

Greetings of the summer season,

Whew was last month a hot one or what? July saw some of the hottest temperatures in Long Island history. Hopefully this month will cool down to a little more reasonable daily temperature. With the Annual Chamber Carnival & Festival only a few weeks away, we’re hoping old Mother Nature is kind to us this year.

Speaking of the carnival, this year marks the 25th Anniversary of what started out as a small shopping center venue craft & entertainment event that has now grown into a full-scale 4 day production on the grounds of the Holbrook Country Club. Dating back to 1995, Board of Directors and former chamber presidents Bea Hoffer, Fern Spies and yours (current) truly have been involved in every single one. None of us can tell where the time went. What we do recall is just how important to the community and fun the carnival is.

This year (August 15 thru 18) promises to be even better with great musical entertainment, rides, food, activities, the Holbrook Fire Department’s fire & safety prevention demonstrations along with great local vendors selling all kinds of goodies. Switching gears, the Chamber has been in constant contact this summer with the State, County & both townships on our Regional Development Study. We’re working in collaboration with all of the local municipalities to formulate a plan that benefits everyone concerned. We will report more on this in the next few months as more definitive ideas and plans are put in place.

For the entire month of August, the Town of Islip will be commemorating their 335th Birthday by hosting restaurant month in Holbrook. Please check the chamber Facebook page and or call our office (631-471-2725) to find out which Holbrook establishments will be participating. Some of the choices will be pre-fix meals, specially priced entrees, apps and drinks. Come out and support the many fine eateries in Holbrook.

In closing, please have a safe & enjoyable rest of your summer and we look forward to seeing everyone down at the fair from the 15th thru the 18th!

All the Best Always,

Rick Ammirati

President, Holbrook Chamber of Commerce
